Yoga is a State of Mindfulness

By Judi Window, Riverflow Yoga Member since 2009

I am busy. Busier than I've ever been... or am I older and my capacity is lower than it has ever been? Either way I find that practicing Yoga for the past 13 years has helped to understand that there is a difference between Mind Full and Mindful...

In the midst of my work overload of daily to-do's, posts, blogs, and planning, I stumbled upon the above post on Facebook... it reminded me that life is a constant balancing act between the two. I am in the former state of Mind Fullness.... Through my Yoga practice (both on and off them mat...as "on-the-mat" has been limited these past few months) I have leaned that practice and patience with process is more important that the "to-do" lists that persist. So, in my quest for Mindfulness... I begin the slow journey back....step by step...task by task... I am... I am... I am....

As Daylight Savings Time Arrives, So Does Yoga!

As we shake off the dust of a long (not so) cold winter, we at Riverflow Yoga are gearing up to receive Springtime with our arms wide open! This weekend (March 10 & 11, 2012) we have two events.

  • Beginners Yoga Workshop This workshop will help you to brush up...learn...reinforce the basics of your Yoga practice. If you can't make it today, be watching for other workshops like this one!
  • FREE Community Yoga Class with teacher trainee, Deb Russell. Deb will incorporate an Egyptian theme into her first Yoga class. Our FREE Community Yoga Class Series helps our "Yoga teachers in training" plan and execute their first classes. Elizabeth Vllagas, studio owner and primary instructor, support the teachers in class by assisting students as needed.
Join us on our Riverflow Yoga Facebook Page to keep up with classes, inspiration, and comic relief in your day. Here is a quick sample of our postings:

3/9/12: "It's not as if one could be bored enough, feel frustrated enough, or complain
enough that their life would suddenly turn around. Doesn't work that way. Whatever anyone "is," they become more of. And anyone's is'ness is whatever they say it is. Happily, The Universe"

3/7/12: "Added hot cherry peppers (& mozzarella on Chris side) . One word...Unbelievable!" Heavenly Vegan Pizza

3/7/12: "How cool is this?!"
Tree Pose
2/24/12: "I am in the mood to sweat. Are you?"

2/20/12: "A Two-Hour *President's Day* Class... Starting at 6pm join us for 90 minutes of Yin Yoga followed by 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra. That's right two hours of AWESOME! -- Join us... for both or just one. See you at 6pm!"

A Little Yoga Reinforcement For A Long Winter

Do you need a little Yoga in your day? We welcome you to our studio anytime! If you can't make it, follow our Riverflow Facebook Page for a little inspiration! Here is a sample:
1/19/12: "Your inner beauty is pure, luminous, and glorious. This real essence is yours eternally. Don't worry for a second about your external beauty. If you're in touch with your inner beauty, your outer beauty will be beautiful."
1/18/12: "I love when a yoga teacher asks me to be still for a few minutes after a pose and just observe how my body and mind feels. For me, contentment is that moment of rest after a great chest opener like Camel Pose. I’ve noticed that when I step back to observe how I feel after any heartfelt activity in my life—a yoga class, hike, or visit with a friend—I feel better than I’ve ever felt after a shopping trip, no matter how big or grandiose the purchase." http://bit.ly/xrt2KC
1/17/12: "Empty your mind of negativity and the universe will fill it with love, wisdom, and bliss."
1/12/12: We often worry that we have to be bendy, flexible, or know how to do a pose perfectly in order to be good at yoga. Felicia Tomasko explains that we do have to be good at yoga, but in different ways than we assume. So how can we be truly good at yoga? By paying attention to our own bodies, our own breath, and stop comparing our own bodies to something outside ourselves. http://youtu.be/HfUgx6LFL1k
